Effective July 1, Kelly B. McCalla of Deerwood will be the interim chief academic officer (CAO) at Central Lakes College of Brainerd and Staples for the next year, a press release sent to the Pioneer Journal said.

Dr. Suresh Tiwari, who was vice president of academic and student affairs the past four years, is leaving CLC for a vice presidency position at Century College in White Bear Lake, Minn.

“Kelly has good institutional and system knowledge and has completed the MnSCU Louma Leadership Academy,” said CLC President Larry Lundblad, who made the announcement to employees.

McCalla will also continue as liberal arts dean, with other duties to be reassigned. He has served as tutorial center coordinator, English instructor, football coach and outreach coordinator, before becoming a dean in 2008.

He was selected the “Teacher of the Year” at CLC in 1995, and has led travel study trips to five different countries.

In addition to his work at CLC, McCalla serves as the chair of the Crosby-Ironton School Board.

The CAO search will begin in late fall, Lundblad said.
